Step 1
Use an electric shaver instead of razor blades to shave the face. Razor blades are more prone to accumulate dirt and bacteria that cause irritation and infection on the skin. Also, razor blades may be harder on sensitive skin than electric ones since they touch the skin much deeper when you shave.
-
Step 2
Shave using a gel product that does not contain alcohol to get rid of ingrown hair. If you have ingrown hairs or razor bumps, it’s likely that your skin is sensitive. Gels or other shaving products that have high content of alcohol may irritate sensitive skin even more.
-
Step 3
Get an over the counter ointment to relieve ingrown hair symptoms. Look for creams and ointments with ingredients such as; witch hazel, hydrocortisone or salicylic acid to treat razor bumps. These ointments help to soften the skin. Clean your face well before applying any creams and ointments since impurities will clog the skin further.
-
Step 4
Visit the SPA and get an exfoliating facial to treat ingrown hairs. A personalized facial for your skin type may help clear the skin of bacteria that prevent the ingrown hair from getting out. The SPA can also be a very relaxing place. As an alternative, buy an exfoliating cream and scrub your face to remove dirt and oils.
-
Step 5
Consult a dermatologist for recurring ingrown hair problems. If the area is infected as evidenced by many red bumps, pain and recurring ingrown hairs; consult a doctor. A dermatologist may recommend medications for treatment.
