The Cash for Clunkers program went so well that the 1 Billion dollar project has ran out of money . Congress as I write this; is debating on the floor to appropriate 2 more billion dollars to this successful, some call it a bail out to the car industry. Personally I wanted to trade in my 1988 gas hog Astro Van, but too late. The purpose of this program is too get the old gas guzzlers off the road, while we boost the car industry. Some are mad saying more government spending.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • knowledge of program
  • Proper web site
  • if your car qualifies
  1. Step 1
    3500,4500
    3500,4500

First the actual name of the program is: CARS (Car Allowance Rebate System). Someone called it Cash for Clunkers and it just stuck. A number of website are popping up when searching for this information.

  2. Step 2

Some Government looking websites are asking for you to register to the program, and are asking for personal information. They may say you need to be pre-approved. YOU DO NOT.

  3. Step 3

The real website to the CARS program is cars.gov. Do not give any personal information to any site that asks all of these requests. They are just trying to get information for identity theft. I have put some safe links at the end of the article to see if your car qualifys.

  4. Step 4

The best way to ensure validity to this program, is to go to your local dealer (of your choice) and see if they have a new car for you. The trade in value for your old clunker will be $3,500, or $4,500. There is a charge for destroying your vehicle dealerships pay, also watch for dealers adding other costs. They shouldn't, but beware.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do a bit of shopping around for your new car. If the do give more funds to the program, you don't have to buy the first thing you see.
  • Check out financing charges
  • Make sure interest rates seems fair
  • Never give personal info to any website you are not sure of
