How to make a Bunk Bed Ladder
Having trouble climbing to the top bunk? Need a ladder to compliment your bunk bed? Here is a easy, cheap ladder that anyone can build using materials from your local hardware store (or even laying around your garage). Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- (2) 2x4's 60" long for the rails.
- (5) 2x4's 14.5" long for the rungs.
- 1.5x0.125" Bar Stock for Brackets
- (4) Hex Bolts 1"x3/8"
- Circular Saw
- Saw Horses
- 3/8 Drill Bits
- 3/8 Hex Driver Bit
- Drill/Driver
- 2.5" screws or nails
- Sand Paper
Instructions

Cut all wood before construction. Set up saw horses in a safe, well ventilated area. Wear proper safety gear.

Sand all cut wood smooth to prevent splinters.

Optional; Stain or Paint wood at this time if desired.

Connect 4 wood rungs at angle level with floor spaced 1 foot apart. Attach with screws or nails.

Connect top rung perpendicular with the floor with 3" nails or screws.

Connect top rail of ladder to bunk bed with 3" screws or nails.

Drill 3/8" holes under each of the 4 bottom rungs. Connect bar stock with hex bolts at each of the 4 bottom rungs.

Tips & Warnings

You may also use a metal hook to connect the ladder to the bed for an easily removable ladder.
Always use safety precautions when building anything.
Always correct all shiners. (Shiners are nails that penetrate through the lumber.)
