With this tutorial, you will learn how to make a traditional brazilian rice using very simple ingredients. This recipe can be made on a normal cooking pot, or using a rice cooker.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cup of long grain rice
  • 4 cups of hot water
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • pinch of salt
  • cooking pot with a lid
  1. Step 1

Chop the onion very finely and set them aside.
Mince the garlic and set them aside.

  2. Step 2

Add the olive oil into a hot pot and add the garlic and the onion. Have the heat set for medium-low so you don't burn the garlic and the onions. Sautee them until they become soft.

  3. Step 3

add in the rice and mix everything together. The oil will give the rice a shiny coat.
Add in a pinch of salt and continue mixing for about 5 minutes.
Then, add the hot water and gently stir the rice.
Place the lid on the pot and turn the heat to low.
Let it cook for 15-20 minutes.
When ready, use a fork to fluff up the rice before serving. Enjoy!!

Tips & Warnings
  • When making rice, the water to rice ratio is always 2:1 (2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice).
  • You may substitute water for low sodium chicken broth for a more flavorful rice.
  • If you have a rice cooker, you can sauteé all the ingredients and then place the rice in the rice cooker pot with the water.
  • burnt garlic can have a bitter taste. Make sure the pot is not too hot to prevent any burning.
