Step 1
If you're visiting Montreal during the summer, check out the International des feux Loto-Quebec. This is an international fireworks competition that lasts from June through August and can be seen from many locations throughout the city.
Other festivals during the summer include the Just For Laughs Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. -

Take a walking tour of the city at night. The city's Lights of Montreal, lights up the city's historic buildings at night and St. Helene Street has even been equipped with 22 gas street lamps to enhance the historical scene.

If you enjoy architecture, take time to visit some of the cities old churches which include: the Christ Church Cathedral, the Grand Seminaire De Montreal, the Notre-Dame Basilica, and the St. Joseph's Cryst-church and shrine.

Some of the museums in Montreal offer free admission. The list includes: The Historical Fleming Mill, which is a 5 story windmill, Centre D'Exposition La Prison-Des-Patriotes and the famous Montreal Museum of Fine Art, which is Canada's oldest art museum.

Chalet Du Mount RoyalEnjoy a stroll in one of Montreal's magnificent parks, like Ile Notre Dame or Ile Ste-Helene which both have floral gardens and beaches, which are free to see. Mount Royal park is where you can view the best overlook of the entire city, and also visit the Chalet Du Mount Royal.

And finally, using the subway system for transportation is an inexpensive way to get around. While there, visit Underground Montreal which has been described as an underground art gallery because each of the subway's stations were designed by a different architect.
Or if you prefer biking, it is a great transportation option, because Montreal was once voted the number one bicycling city.
