  2. Step 2

Obtain an Oriole feeder. These are easily found as they are primarily orange in color and are similar to hummingbird feeders. Because the feeder is orange, you will not need to add food coloring to the Oriole food.

  3. Step 3

Clean the Oriole feeder before filling with new food. Do this with a water and vinegar solution. Rinse thoroughly with warm water before adding new food.

  4. Step 4

Bring two cups water to a boil. Add ½ cup sugar (six parts water to one part sugar). Stir until fully absorbed.

  5. Step 5

Remove water and sugar solution from heat. Allow to cool.

  6. Step 6

Fill the Oriole feeder with your homemade nectar. Store the excess in the refrigerator for no longer than two weeks. Replace every few days.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when boiling water not to burn yourself.
  • Oriole feeders should be orange in color.
  • Food over two weeks old should be discarded.
