Making an entrance wheelchair accessible not only makes your home more welcoming to the old and disabled, but can also increase its resale value.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    If your stairs going up to the entrance way you will need to build a ramp to make it wheelchair accessible. The wrap should be at least 34 inches wide and preferably 48 inches wide. It should have slow of no more than a 1 foot rise for 12 feet of length.

  2. Step 2

    The ramp should also have a railing at a height of 32 to 34 inches. The area of the landing at the top of the ramp should be at least 5' x 5' two make the entrance wheelchair accessible for turns and backing up.

    To make sure your entrance is wheelchair accessible you should have no ledges in excess of 1/4 inch high. If necessary provide threshold ramps or transition stripping.
