We have all been guilty of making a rice dish that somehow turns out sticky and gummy. Nasty, far from perfect, but we serve the rice dish to our family anyway.

I recently ran across a recipe for the perfect Spanish Rice and found that the basic preparation of the rice will work for any rice dish!

What a wonderful discovery! Now every rice dish I prepare turns out perfect...every time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • rice
  • strainer, or a bowl works just as well
  • skillet
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  1. Step 1

Place the desired amount of rice into the strainer. Rinse the rice in running water until the water runs clear.

You can also put the rice into a bowl, add water, and stir. The water will become cloudy. Drain the water from the rice. Repeat this process until the water no longer becomes cloudy.

Drain the rice of as much water as possible.

  2. Step 2

Place the 2 tablespoons of oil into a skillet. Put the skillet on medium heat on the stove and allow the oil to get hot.

  3. Step 3

Pour the rice into the skillet of hot oil. Fry over medium heat until golden brown. Remove from heat and put aside.

  4. Step 4

Prepare your rice dish as you normally would using the fried rice.

Your rice dish will turn out perfect...every time!

Tips & Warnings
  • The washing and frying of the rice removes starches from the rice. These starches are what makes the rice sticky and unappetizing.
  • Removing the starches from the rice creates a perfect rice dish for any recipe.
