Determine if you are fit for the profession:
The legal profession is a very competitive and stressful profession. It is also not as glamorous as the media portrays. Most attorneys work long hours in front of a computer doing legal research or writing legal documents. A large percentage of them do not go to court often. You also have to be confrontational when you're fighting for your clients' interests. It is also consistently ranked at the bottom of job listing in terms of job satisfaction. But if you got the personality, check out the following steps.

Finish high school:
Finish high school, be as good a writer as you can be, and participate in any mock trials and debates.

Finish college and pick an appropriate major:
Unless you intend to become a patent attorney, which requires specialized training in a scientific or technological field, you probably should major in English, History, Political Science or other discipline that requires you to do lots of critical thinking and writing.

Take the LSAT:
Take the Law School Admission Test. Get as high a score as possible.

Apply for a law school:
Try to apply for the best law school that will accept you. After 3 years of legal training, you will graduate with a J.D. degree.

Pass the State Bar Exam:
Finally, to become a lawyer, you must pass at least one State Bar examination.
