Everyone loves a shaggy dog, but is grooming one a nightmare?

In this article you will learn how to easily and correctly clean and groom a shaggy dog.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A comb with metal teeth
  • A dog shampoo that has natural moisturizers such as Aloe Vera
  • a scissor
  • towels
  • conditioner
  1. Step 1

It is always necessary to comb through your dog before putting him in the tub for a bath. Even if he is filthy. You can use a dog brush or comb. I comb through my dog in sections. I start with the front quarters, hind quarters, head, chest, tummy and bottom/tail areas. If I encounter knots and sheep dogs always have knots, I first look to see how big the knot is. If it is a small loose knot, I hold the knot as close to the dog's skin as possible. I don't want the dog to feel any pain when I comb through it. If the knot is large and dense, I use scissors. When cutting into a knot, always cut downward, NEVER cut across. You could damage the look of their beautiful coat if you cut across. After you cut through the knot, you can comb through it a lot more easily and you will be shocked how much you are able to remove.

  2. Step 2

Once you are done removing your shaggy dog's excess hair, tangles and knots, you can put him in the tub. During bath time lather him up, paying close attention to his bottom. Take a good look under his tail. You may find some surprises that may need lots of shampoo and warm water before they can be easily removed. If your dog gets food remnants stick in the fur near his muzzle, you may need some conditioner to soften up those hairs to clean that area properly. Lastly, rinse your dog until the water runs clear.

  3. Step 3

First, towel dry your dog. I trained my dog to drip dry in the tub with a big towel for a few minutes. The I blow dry her on a warm, not hot setting. Remember, that a dog's body temperature is often warmer than a human's. Don't overheat your pooch! While you are drying him, take a brush or comb and go over his whole body again.
