Step 1
The first thing to do is look for any standing water, like a kids pool that you have in the yard. Mosquitoes will lay there eggs
in anything that has standing water in it. Old tires are a great place for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. Other areas to look for are flower pots, pet water dishes. If you have a swimming pool in the yard and use a cover it is a haven for them. If you have a small fish pond in the back yard stock it with some gold fish and koi fish they will eat the mosquitoes eggs and larva on the top of the water. -
Step 2
You want to clean out your gutters and drain spouts . They will get stopped up with leaves and rain water which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If you have areas that collect water try and drain them and add fresh soil to fill them in. If you chlorinate the water in a pool this will keep them from laying eggs in the water. Covered sand boxes that have water in the sand are also bad. You need to dry out the sand and keep it fresh. Any areas that are swampy and weedy need to be drained and cleaned up.

Step 3
Another area that will breed mosquitoes is boat covers and car covers that collect rain water. The drainage ditch that runs along the street in some areas can be a great place for mosquitoes it needs to be dry and clean. Mosquitoes love areas that are shaded and moist so keep any gardens ,shrubs, the grass mowed and weed free. Some neighborhoods and towns will spray or fog for them when its is extremely rainy so check and see if they have this service in your area.

on 8/6/2009 Eliminating standing water is great advice for getting rid of mosquitoes. Besides the obvious painful bites, these nasty buggers can carry extremely harmful diseases.
