Step 1
Choose a hairstyle that draws the gaze away from the widest part of your face--usually your cheekbones. Avoid any kind of fullness or body along the horizontal line of your cheeks, and don't end the haircut anywhere from cheek to jaw.
-
Step 2
Pick a haircut that squares off on top to add some angular geometry to your profile and minimize the roundness. Even if your hair is curly, give it an even cut on top--or if wavy, let the waves on top grow a bit long so they flatten naturally.
-
Step 3
Avoid bangs. Nothing wrong with bangs on a man, but you want to keep your full forehead exposed, to maximize its length and minimize the roundness of your face shape.
-
Step 4
Choose a hair cut at the right length. Pick either a very short haircut or long haircut shoulder-length or below. Whatever you do, avoid chin-length cuts, which round out a guy's face.
For short haircuts, choose a close-cropped or buzz cut style. Or trim the hair far above the jaw in an even line to elongate your round face. But as mentioned before, watch that the cut doesn't bulk out over the cheekbones where it ends.
For men with round faces, long haircuts work better with thick hair than with fine--or if your hair is thin, with a little wave. Long, curly hair on guys with round faces is to be avoided if you're going for a guy's-guy look. -
Step 5
Wear men's long hairstyles with an off-center part, with perhaps one side sweeping over your cheekbone for an extra cool look that also thins out your round cheekbones.

Step 6
Study photos of John Goodman, the male actor whose round face, which also happens to be heavy, still looks great. He wears his hair full-bodied on top, thus making his face appear more oval, and that is trimmed to the eyeline. See Resources for a picture.
