Instructions

    • 1

Rule out the basics. Verify that the D125xi is plugged into a reliable power source and is powered on. Check that the printer is connected to your computer using its included USB cable. Finally, make sure there is a sufficient supply of printer paper in the D125xi's feed tray.

Restore the Officejet D125xi's default factory settings. Over time, users may accidentally or purposefully change the D125xi's internal settings and inadvertently create software conflicts and system errors. Restoring the printer clears its internal cache and may resolve such errors. Press "Menu" on the front navigational pad near the D125xi's LCD display screen. Use the arrows to select "Status and Maintenance." Then, click "Restore Factory Defaults." The printer is now reset.

Download critical software patches and printer driver updates. Hewlett-Packard releases patches and updates for both the D125xi's desktop computer software and its internal printer firmware. These updates fix most common software-related malfunctions. Make sure the D125xi is connected to your computer. Then, launch your favorite web browser and visit the D125xi's software driver page (see Resources). Download the most recent version of its driver. Double-click the downloaded file to start the automated update process. Your computer will sync with the D125xi and update the printer's firmware.

Check the D125xi's ink levels. Low ink levels may result in faded or choppy printing results. Press "Menu" on the D125xi's front panel. Select "Status and Maintenance" and choose "Check Ink Level." The miniature LCD screen will then display the level of ink remaining in the printer's ink cartridges. Replace any cartridges that are low by lifting the D125xi's front panel and pulling the respective ink cartridge toward you. The HP Officejet D125xi is compatible with any HP cartridges labeled "HP 14."

Switch printer paper. Streaks, smears and similar low printing results may be caused by poor quality paper or paper that is incompatible with the Officejet D125xi. HP recommends using high- or soft-gloss paper, and does not recommend slick media such as transparencies.

Tips & Warnings

  • Smudges and dirt on the D125xi's scan and copy bed slows down the scanning and copying process, and may result in low-quality copies. Use a damp, clean rag and non-abrasive glass cleaner to regularly wipe the panel and keep the D125xi in working order.
