How to Make a USB Light
There are several reasons why you might want to make a USB light. Perhaps you want it for your laptop to help you see the keyboard in the dark. Or maybe you just want to impress your friends with your cleverness, since you can, of course, buy these lights already made. In any case, the process is straightforward, only requiring a few items.

Open the cap end of the highlighter, cut off the tip and remove the innards--cleaning the inside completely. Now cut off the other end of the highlighter using a utility knife. Remove the USB drive's plastic cover. Put tape around the drive and insert it into the end of the highlighter.

Insert the LED where the tip was, making sure that the LED is in far enough that the highlighter cap will go back on.

Put a flashlight spring in the cap. Place the cap back on the highlighter. When the drive is plugged in, a twist of the cap should turn the light on.
