Keep Your Puppy From Chewing On Furniture

When you think of puppies you first think cute little fur balls that love to play. Then you think razor sharp puppy teeth that will destroy your furniture. Well this article will help you with that second thought so you can enjoy your cute little fur ball. (and yes, this cute little guy is my dog whos eye is my profile picture :)

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • LOTS of chew toys
  • Kong Balls
  • Peanut Butter
  1. Step 1

The number one thing you want to do with any puppy is love them unconditionally. The second number one thing you want to do is surround them with chew toys. From rattle toys to squeeky toys to rubber toys. They are puppies so they are going to chew, that you can not prevent. But by surrounding them with not only a lot of toys, but also a wide variety of textures and sounds, this will keep them entertained more than enough that they wont be tempted to venture to that brand new coffee table or your favorite chair.

  2. Step 2

If you are on a budget and can only afford a couple toys at a time, buy a couple fabric rattle/squeeky toys and invest the rest of your money in a KONG ball (http://www.kongcompany.com/worlds_best.html) These balls you can stuff treats in and it takes the dog hours to get it out, or my dogs favorite, peanut butter. This takes them a while too because it sticks to the inside and is not a easy grab for them. Eventually about half way through they will give up and take a nap or just relax.

  3. Step 3

Lastly - EXERCISE! If your puppy gets enough exercise outside, once they are back inside they will just be calm and sleep on their bed and wont hesitate with destroying your home. The KONG balls mentioned in step 2 are great for indoors and outdoors, so bring their favorite toy to the park with you!

  4. Step 4

With love, attention and play time - your puppy will be so happy they wont have to eat the furniture to get your attention.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will find out as your puppy grows what their favorite toys are - if they show interest in one style/kind more than another, invest more money into ones similar to keep them happier.
  • With any fabric toy once your puppy rips it apart and stuffing starts coming out grab the toy and either sew it back together or throw it out. Eating stuffing, strings, etc... is not good for ANY dog
