How to Change the Color of the Ball on the Blackberry

Blackberry handsets are customized in many ways. Blackberry users can buy custom colored handsets, wallpapers and skins. However, they may not know they can change the color of the ball in the middle of your Blackberry handset. This ball is known as a trackball.

Things You'll Need

• Blackberry handset with trackball
• Permanent marker with fine tip
• Thin knife, or similar prying device

Instructions

1. Carefully remove the chrome ring surrounding your trackball. Pry it out with a knife or similar device thin enough to wedge between the ring and the Blackberry shell.

2. Carefully remove the trackball. Depending on your Blackberry model, you may only need to tap the blackberry against your palm. Otherwise, you may have to gently pull the trackball out with your knife.

3. Locate the LED light bulb inside the space where your trackball normally rests. Push a button or exercise a function that normally causes your trackball to light up.

4. Graze the surface of the LED light bulb alone with the tip of the fine-tip permanent marker of your choice. Brush the LED light bulb surface gently until it is covered completely, but lightly.

5. Replace the trackball. Test the trackball for response. The painted LED will make your trackball glow in the color of your permanent marker.

6. Replace the ring that surrounded your trackball. Slide its tabs back into place. Turn the Blackberry upside down to make sure the ring is secure. Test the trackball for response and proper positioning.

• Check the specifics of your warranty or coverage plan. Be mindful that coloring your LED light may violate terms of such agreements.
