Knitting a baby blanket is easy and fun. It's a great beginners project as it works up quickly and doesn't require any fancy techniques. This project uses a bulky (category 5) yarn, and size 10.5 24" circular needles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knitting Needles Size 10.5 24" Circular
  • Scissors
  • Bulky (category 5)Yarn 100% Polyester or Polyester Blend
  • Crochet Hook or Blunt Large-eye Needle
  1. Step 1

Choose a machine washable yarn. Make sure you buy enough in the same "dye lot". The dye lot will be printed on the yarn package. You will need about 500 yards.

  2. Step 2

There is no need for you to preparea a guage sample. Guage is not critical for this project. Your finished project will measure approximately 30" x 30" depending on how tightly or loosely you knit.

  3. Step 3

Cast on 64 stitches using any cast on technique that you like.

  4. Step 4

Knit across each row (garter stitch) until the height is approximate to the the length (approximately 128 rows).

  5. Step 5

Cast off. Weave in loose ends by using a crochet hook or large-eye blunt needle. Voila!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can change the bulk of your yarn and the size of your needles to adjust the finished size of the blanket. The lower the yarn category and the smaller the needle will result in a smaller blanket. A higher yarn category and larger needle will result in a larger blanket.
  • If you decide to use a wool-blend yarn, be sure it is machine washable or it will felt and shrink!
