Give your Baby a Massage
Give your Baby a Massage

A parent's touch is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our baby. Infant massage is a great way to connect to your baby, and can give them a sense of confidence and comfort. Learn how to massage your baby with this easy guide.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You should begin your infant massage when your baby is receptive and calm. She can be awake or sleepy; this does not matter so much as making sure they are relaxed.

  2. Step 2

Lay your baby on a soft surface such as a bed or a blanket. Make sure that there is no danger that they can fall or roll off.

  3. Step 3

Undress your baby down to the diaper. If you would prefer to massage your baby without anything on, make sure to lie a thick towel under them to prevent any accidents.

  4. Step 4

You may use any mild oil to help facilitate the massage, like olive oil or vegetable oil, but baby oil is not recommended for infant massage.

  5. Step 5

Begin your massage with your baby's arms and legs. Use a very gentle motion as if you were milking a cow. Continue down to their fingers and toes, and massage each gently. Then move from the center of their chest or belly outwards with a smooth rubbing motion. You may place your fingers on your baby's temples and massage in slow, gentle circles.

  6. Step 6

You may sing or talk quietly to your baby as you massage them. It will be comforting to your child to hear your voice as you massage them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always be gentle. Do not use the force you would when giving an adult a massage.
