How to Obtain a Small Business License Application

      Log in to Business.gov and enter your zip code. Choose your business type from the drop down box and click the blue "Search" button. Select the specific business you wish to apply for; there are different licensing requirements for different types of businesses.

      Click the link under State Licenses and Permits labelled "Business and Occupational Licenses." This will take you to your specific zip code.

      Choose the Start New Business tab and press enter. Next, click on the "New Business Application" button and request print. Complete the state application, get a money order for the required application fee, and visit the state office to file your application.

      Return to the Business.gov website and repeat step one. Click the link under Local Licenses and Permits labelled "Business Licenses and Tax Permits". This will take you to the county for your specific zip code.

      Choose the button marked Business Application and press print. Complete your county application, including the name of your business and employer identification number. Get a money order for the required fee and visit the county office to file your application. Most counties require you to have your state business license before filing a county application.
