How to Install Ntoskrnl.exe
Ntoskrnl.exe is a critical process that is part of the bootup cycle in the Windows XP operating system. It is generally stored in the System32 folder. From time to time, this process becomes corrupt or goes missing due to a corrupted hard disk, missing boot.ini file or occasional keyboard issues caused by a short in the ground wire in the keyboard cable. Using the Windows XP operating system installation disc, you can reinstall Ntoskrnl.exe easily and resolve any boot or system errors.

Insert the Windows XP operating system installation disc into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. Restart your computer.

Press any key to boot from the installation disc when prompted. Press "R" to open the Recovery Console after the setup files have finished loading.

Press "1" and then "Enter."

Log into the administrator account by typing the administrator password. Press "Enter."

Type the following command on the recovery console command prompt if you are using a Uni-Processor (single CPU) system:
expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Replace <cd drive> with the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive. Replace <hd-drive> with the letter of the hard drive on which your Windows operating system is installed.
Press "Enter." -

Type the following command on the recovery console command prompt if you are using a Multi-Processor system:
expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Press "Enter." -

Type "Exit" when you have completed installing the "Ntoskrnl.exe" file and press "Enter" on the command prompt.
