How to Set Up Burton Bindings

Burton, the leader in the snowboard market, has created a line of snowboard bindings for men and women. There are two types: regular and EST. The bindings have different mounting systems. EST bindings are compatible only with Burton ICS snowboards. Traditional Burton bindings use a three-screw mounting system, instead of the standard four-screw, so you may need an adapter plate for your board.

Things You'll Need

  • Burton snowboard or mounting disk for other snowboards

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you are mounting the bindings left or right foot forward, then figure out the width of your stance. If you are unsure about your forward foot, stand straight with your feet together and have someone push you from behind; the foot you move forward to balance on is your forward foot. After doing so, experiment with different widths for your stance. Shoulder width is the most common, but some prefer a slightly narrower or wider stance.

    • 2

Determine your angles. If you are left foot forward, select the left binding and try different angles with the toe more forward or more back. Put on your boots to help determine your preference. Mark how you would like the angle of both the front and rear bindings.

    • 3

Remove the boot and place the mounting disk inside the binding. Rotate the disk until the three holes in the disk line up with three holes in the board. There are several holes drilled in the front and back of the Burton board for getting the best angle.

    • 4

Place your boot back in the binding and get the boot/binding so it is centered over the board. If the binding has an adjustable heel cup, loosen the heel cup to get the boot centered. If not, try sliding the binding around to get it centered.

    • 5

Screw the binding into the board. Repeat the procedure for the rear binding. After mounting the bindings, put the board on the carpet, step into the bindings and ratchet them down to make sure that it feels right.

Tips & Warnings

  • EST bindings mount inside a channel on the board itself with two screws. Place the tab of the binding into the channel and adjust your angles as above, then screw the binding in place. Two plastic plugs in the channel must be removed before you can do this.
