How to Keep a Vonage Number

Vonage is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service provider. If you have Vonage service and want to cancel it, you don't have to lose your telephone number. Thanks to local number portability rules, you can keep the same number regardless of whether you are transporting it to a traditional, cellular or VoIP service.

    Instructions

      • 1

Contact your new phone service provider and tell it that you want to port your number from Vonage.

      • 2

Give your new provider the required information to complete the port. It will need your Vonage account number, the 10-digit phone number you want to port, your Zip code and your account pass code, if applicable.

      • 3

Wait for the transfer to take place. It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for the number to be ported to your new service. Your Vonage service will be automatically terminated upon completion of the port.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Your Vonage service must remain active to port the number. If you disconnect your service before you port the number you will lose that telephone number.

    • If you are under contract with Vonage, you will be responsible for any contract termination fees.
