3D artists use UV maps in programs like Poser and DAZ Studio to create textures for 3D objects. UVMapper software deconstructs the polygons used in a 3D .obj and creates a flat map image. You can then open the UV Map with digital imaging software and paint over the map to create a realistic texture. UVMapper makes this process very simple and even new 3D artists can do it easily.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • UVMapper Pro or UVMapper Classic
  • .obj file

    Mapping Your Object

  1. Step 1

    Open UVMapper.

  2. Step 2

Drag the icon for your .obj file to the UVMapper window to start mapping the file.

  3. Step 3

Click "OK" in the "Statistics" window.

  4. Step 4

Go to the "Edit" menu and select "New UV Map." Then select "Planar." Click "OK" to create a map that is easier to use for texturing.

  5. Step 5

Go to the "File" menu and select "Save Texture Map." Click "OK." Choose a location to save your file, click "Save" and you have a UV Map that can be used to create a texture for your 3D object.

Tips & Warnings
  • Increase the resolution before you save the file if you want to create a high-resolution texture.
  • There are various views to choose from under the "New UV Map" menu, but "Planar" is the most accurate and easiest to use.
