Things You'll Need:
- Bugs
-
Step 1
Grow the Venus flytrap in a terrain for easy feeding and give the plant the humidity that it needs. You can catch some flies, place them in the terrain, and cover with a lid so that the flytrap can feed on it own. The flytrap will get hungry, sense the bugs present, and open its trap to lure the flies into the trap.
-
Step 2
Grow the plant in a pot on a table and feed it manually. The plant needs to have food to survive. Use a tweezers to gently pry the trap open and drop the bug inside. When doing this, you must be very careful not to damage the trap or the inside. In this case, you can catch flies in a jar and refrigerate them to stun them and slow them down to catch them and feed to the Venus flytrap. The bugs must be alive when fed to the plant.

Step 3
Keep the soil soggy for this type of plant. The plant grows in the southern swamps of North and South Carolina. The soil cannot be of high quality. Avoid nutrient rich potting mix. Use a soil that comes from an area that has no fertilizers and lots of weeds in your back yard. This will be the best soil for the flytrap. If you buy a plant already in soil, continue to use that soil, as it is already adaptable for the Venus flytrap.

Step 4
Avoid using any fertilizers as these can kill the plant. This plant does not require any nutrients in the soil to live and grow.

Step 5
Use rainwater to keep the soil wet. Tap water has chemicals in it and can kill the plant. Filtered tap water is good, but rainwater or distilled water work the best for watering.
