The Post 9-11 Gi Bill states a transferability of benefits, here is how to get it done.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • LES
  • MyPay login info
  • Be married to or in the military
  • Information of School
  1. Step 1

Gather your information such as your MyPay login information, college address and name, previous job information and if your in the military, your schools and trade information.

  2. Step 2

Go to http://www.defenselink.mil/home/features/2009/0409_gibill/ for not only information but for the link needed to transfer.

  3. Step 3

Click on "Transferability Application", you can open it in a web browser other than Internet Explorer but your going to have to approve the certificates.

  4. Step 4

One you have opened the page it will ask for your login. The last choice is your MyPay Pin. The other two are self explanatory. Fill out the forms and remember to determine how many months you want to transfer to each dependent or all to one. Up to 36 months is allowed. The benefits can be used within 10 yrs. If a college semester is 2 months then you've used 2 months of benefits. If you wait a year then go back to school, then it will pick up where you left off.

  5. Step 5

    Next go to https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp_ssl/intro1.asp.
You must create a login username and password. Be sure to have your information handy.

  6. Step 6

Fill out Form 22-1990E Education Benefits-Application for Family Member to Use Transferred Benefits. The other form is for military member and NOT the dependent. After you have completed the forms, keep a watch out for emails concerning your education benefits.
