How to Create Your Own vBulletin Powered Page

VBulletin is a community forum solution that provides both a user interface and back-end database, enabling people to offer forums on their own websites and blogs. With forum software, you can create a vibrant and engaging discussion group, classified ads and other interactive user-driven content.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a license for the vBulletin software from the vBulletin website (see Resources). Once you have your license, download the software package.

  2. Step 2

Extract the files to a folder on your computer and then open the config.php.new file with a text editor. You will need to edit this file according to the vBulletin documentation and the database information provided by your Web host. Once you've edited the file, save as config.php.

  3. Step 3

Upload the complete vBulletin software, including your edited .php file, to your Web host either through the host's file manager program or File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

  4. Step 4

Execute the installation script. Once you've completed your upload, you will need to execute the installation script by typing in your website address where you've uploaded the files and following it with "/install/install.php." Enter your customer number as provided by vBulletin when you purchased your license.

  5. Step 5

Follow the installation prompts to personalize your forum. You will be asked a series of questions including the name of your forum or bulletin board and the Web address. Once you've completed the installation prompts, your bulletin board or forum will be ready to use.

  6. Step 6

Log in to the administration panel associated with your website to further personalize and modify your forums, including setting up user accounts. You can access this panel by typing in your Web address and including the location of the admin panel. For example: http://www.yourwebsitename.com/forums/admincp/.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you receive an installation error, check your config.php to ensure that you saved it with the correct database information.
