Instructions

  1. Change a Garden Fountain

    • 1

Unplug all garden pumps before working in the water. Remove the old garden fountain by pulling it up out of the water with the pond net or a long stick with a hook on it. A small garden hoe or an old broom handle with a hook screwed into the end will work. Discard all non-working mechanisms and corroded hardware.

    • 2

Raise the submersible pond pump carefully with a net or hook. Make every effort not to disturb any filter or hoses that you also have in the pond. Detach the old hose or tube from the water garden filter. If the hoses and tubes are still in good condition, clean them off with a garden hose, especially on the ends that will be reattached.

    • 3

Cut a new length of hose the appropriate length to reach from the pond pump to the new fountain pump. Screw one end to the filter and pump mechanism, or use a hose clamp to attach it securely if there is no threaded screw end. Place the pump with hose attached back into its position in the water garden.

    • 4

Attach the other end of the hose to the new fountain mechanism either by screwing it on or by using another hose clamp. Put the upright fountain tube with fountain head attachment on the upper side of the fountain pump. Be sure the new tube is long enough to reach the top of the water from where the pump will rest.

    • 5

Place additional bricks or stones where the fountain pump will sit if necessary to raise it closer to the surface of the water. Sink the fountain pump into this pedestal or the bottom of the water garden. Be sure to support it with stones or bricks so the upright tube and fountain head are straight to the top of the water. Plug the filters and pumps back in and enjoy your new pond fountain.
