An easy way to cut crown molding is by using a DeWalt miter saw. The difference between using a miter saw and a regular saw is that most DeWalt models offer guides called "crown stops" that makes cutting crown molding convenient. Depending on the size of the crown molding, many different models of DeWalt miter saws can be used.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DeWalt miter saw
  • Crown molding
  1. Step 1

Choose the type of saw you will use, depending on the size of the crown molding you are using. The DW703 cuts up to a 4 ½-inch crown; the DW715 cuts up to 5 ¼-inch crown; and the DW716 and DW718 cut up to 6 5/8-inch crown.

  2. Step 2

Rest the decorative side (or bottom) of the crown molding against the fence on the DeWalt. The decorative side will face you. Set the crown stop for the angle you want cut.

  3. Step 3

Test on scrap moldings before cutting your final piece, since many rooms are not perfectly square. Turn your saw on and slowly make the cut, holding the crown molding firmly with the other hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear safety goggles and gloves when using a miter saw.
