Celebrate Fido's birthday with a peanut butter cake.

In an 2007 Harris Interactive Poll, pet owners were asked if they considered their companion animals as family members. A whopping 88 percent said they did. Furthermore, the American Pet Association reported that 19 million people celebrate their pet's birthday. If you are one of them, you may want to try a yummy, yet nutritious canine birthday cake.

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare the cake pans by greasing them with butter or oil.

    • 2

Mix dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.

    • 3

Create a dished out 'well' in the center of the dry ingredients mixture and add the wet ingredients into the center. Mix well.

    • 4

Pour the cake batter into a greased cake pan.

    • 5

Bake on the middle rack for approximately 30 minutes or until edges begin to pull away and toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the middle of your cake.

    • 6

Top your dog's birthday cake with a frosting made from cream cheese that has been flavored with a few tablespoons of carob powder or molasses. You may also use chunky peanut butter for the frosting.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make a bone-shaped cake, double the recipe and bake your cake in a 9 by 11 inch rectangular cake pan and two small round cake pans. Cut the circles in half and place each half on both ends of your rectangle. Round them out to look like the ends of a bone.

  • Do not allow your dog to eat large amounts at a time.
