This article tells you how to pack your H1N1 / Swine Flu Survival Kit.

No need to go to the store and buy a pre-assembled H1N1 / Swine Flu Survival kit. Just know what to get and assemble it yourself!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • water and food for at least three days
  • hand sanitizer
  • surgical masks
  • medications
  • optional items
  1. Step 1

    Water and Food

Pack at least 1 Gallon of bottled water per day per person.
You will also need at least a three day food supply for each person in your household. Better plan for 1-2 weeks!
You can pack these along the guidelines for general emergency planning. Packaged non-perishable food, canned items etc. Don't forget the chicken noodle soup!

Make sure you have also planned for pet food and water!

  2. Step 2

    Sanitizers

Get hand sanitizers and make sure it has a high alcohol concentration (higher than 60%).
Sprays and wipes might be another good idea.
    Also pack disposable gloves.

  3. Step 3

    Masks

Add N-95 surgical masks. Make sure they are rated N-95.

  4. Step 4

    Medications

Think about the things you would normally need when combating the flu:
Fever and pain reducing medications, such as Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc.

Other medications to include are over the counter cold and flu remedies. These won't combat the flu itself, but might relieve some of the symptoms!

While antibiotics (notably Tamiflu and Relenza) are most effective, they are only available upon prescription. Your doctor will prescribe these to you should you become sick.

  5. Step 5

    Optional Items

Here is a list of optional items you may or may not include in your H1N1 / Swine Flu Survival Kit. These are items you may like to have at hand if you become sick:

    - entertainment: may-be a couple of crossword books, games and movies?
    - well-being: tissues (to sneeze your nose), lotion and lip balm (to combat dry skin, since sickness sometimes leaves us dehydrated), plenty of toilet paper!

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay calm and informed! Don't panic!
  • This is only a list with recommendations. It is not meant to be an all-inclusive list.
  • Differing state, country laws and regulations may pertain to the availability of medications and other items. This article was written to the best of my personal knowledge!
