Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 yards of mid-weight leather
  • Pencil
  • Pattern paper
  • Scissors
  • Clips
  • Sewing machine with heavy-duty needles
  • Heavy-duty thread
  1. Step 1

Make a paper pattern for tracing onto the leather. Draw a rectangle that measures 10-by-12 inches for the front and back of the handbag. Draw a rectangle that measures 4-by-2 inches for the bottom of the bag. Draw a rectangle that measures 3-by-20 inches for the handles.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the pattern pieces. Trace around the patterns onto the back of the leather. Cut out the pieces of leather.

  3. Step 3

Match up the front piece and one of the side pieces with wrong sides together. Sew down the length. Repeat this step with the back piece and the other side piece. Sew the front to the back at the sides.

  4. Step 4

Turn the bag inside out. Attach the bottom piece to the rest of the bag. Hold it in place with clips. Make sure to match up all four corners. Sew in place.

  5. Step 5

Take one of the handle pieces and fold it in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together. Sew down the entire length. Repeat with the other handle.

  6. Step 6

Measure 3 inches in from both sides on the front piece of the bag. Make a mark on the inside of the bag. Sew the opposite ends of the handles on the markings. Repeat with the remaining handle on the back piece of the bag.
