Things You'll Need:
- Prescription for Xanax
- Prescription for Klonopin
- Journal or notebook
-
Step 1
See a doctor. If the doctor thinks you are a good candidate for benzodiazepines, you usually will have exhibited some symptoms of anxiety that require medical care and prescription treatment. Usually a doctor will prescribe Xanax or Klonopin in conjunction with visits to a psychologist. Your doctor probably will not prescribe Xanax and Klonopin to you at one time, but if you would like to try each to see if it works for you, express this to your doctor, who may prescribe you two small amounts of each at once and schedule a follow-up appointment.
-
Step 2
Fill your prescriptions at a drugstore. Depending on your health insurance, each prescription may be less than $5 or more than $200. Ask your doctor to prescribe you the generic version of Xanax (alprazolam) and Klonopin (clonazepam) to keep the price of your prescriptions down.
-
Step 3
Take a dose of Xanax and observe how you feel. For best results, take Xanax on a full stomach and drink a full glass of water after your dose. Only take the dose that your doctor has prescribed for you. Write down your observations in a journal or notebook, including how you are feeling, what your thoughts are or if you are feeling stressed or panicky. Go throughout your day normally and observe any side effects, such as a rash, headache or restlessness of any kind.
-
Step 4
Take a dose of Klonopin and observe how you feel. You should take this dose of Klonopin at least one day after you have taken your dose of Xanax. Do the same process you did with the Xanax and write down how you feel, your thought process while taking the medication and any side effects that you may be experiencing while taking Klonopin.
-
Step 5
Report the effects and any side effects to your doctor, and the two of you can determine which medication, if any, would be the right fit for you.
