Wall-mounted wooden work bench

The key element in building a wooden work bench is creating enough stability to support heavy items. One way to create this stability is by building a wall-supported work bench in your garage or outbuilding. Utilizing the studs already in place, you can build a durable wooden work bench.

Things You'll Need

  • Five 60-inch two-by-fours
  • Four 28-inch two-by-fours
  • Two 38-inch two-by-fours
  • Circular saw
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Level

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the two-by-fours using a circular or hand saw to the lengths listed above. Many home improvement stores offer free cutting of purchased wood.

    • 2

Use a circular saw to cut a 45 degree angle off the edge of the two 38-inch two-by-fours. Make sure the cut is straight; this will be the bottom support for your work bench.

    • 3

Nail two of the 28-inch boards to the two 38-inch two-by-fours. The smaller boards should be perpendicular to the larger boards. Use a level to make sure the two 28-inch boards are even before nailing.

    • 4

Nail the angled end of the two 38-inch two-by-fours to the bottom of the wall studs about 30 to 40 inches apart. Keep in mind that the two 28-inch top support boards should be flush with the wall studs.

    • 5

Nail the ends of the two 28 inch-two-by-fours to the wall studs.

    • 6

Place four of the 60-inch boards on top of the wall-mounts. Make sure they are lying perfectly flat with minimal space between them.

    • 7

Nail the four 60-inch boards into the wall mounts. This is the surface of the work bench.

    • 8

Take the last 60-inch two-by-four and nail it to the front of your work bench. The front panel board should fit underneath the surface boards.

    • 9
      Side panel board

Nail the last two 28-inch boards to the sides of your work bench. The side panel boards should fit underneath the surface boards.

    • 10

Use any scrap material to fill in the gaps between the wall and your work bench. If you have drywall in place over the wall studs, you won't need to do this.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear proper safety equipment when sawing and hammering to avoid injury.
