How to make a lighted palm tree for a great outdoor party!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm Tree (or other tree)
  • Small white Holiday string lights
  • Bread ties or other flexible wire pieces (3"- 5" long)or thumb tacs
  • Ladder (if tree limbs are not within reach)
  1. Step 1

Determine how many holiday string lights you will need based on the size of the trees you want to light.

  2. Step 2

At one end of the light string, begin wrapping the lights around the base of the palm or through the tree branches. Be sure to wrap snug around the palm tree trunk to keep the lights in place. (the lights can be secured to the trunk by using thumb tacs to create a ledge for the light string to rest on - DO NOT puncture the wire with the thumb tac because you may get shocked!!!)

  3. Step 3

Continue wrapping the lights in a evenly spaced manner throughout the tree until you have the desired amount of lights. (it may be necessary to add more than one string of lights to each tree) You may use bread ties or other short flexible wire to secure the lights to the tree limbs if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there is no source for electric, use battery operated lights.
  • Lighted paper lanterns or other novelty string lights can be used to match a party theme or personal taste.
  • Solar lights are available that are environmentally friendly!!!
  • Twinkle lights add another dimension if desired.
  • DO NOT puncture the light string with thumb tacs or any other tool used to secure the light string. This may cause electric shock or potentially could start a fire if left unattended!!!
  • If a ladder is required to string the lights, use caution to ensure the ladder is on even ground and have another person available to hold the base of the ladder for safety.
  • Select lights that are rated for outside use.
