Heredity or weight gain can cause the appearance of a double chin. Indeed, some people can be heavy without having a double chin, while others can put on just a little weight and end up with a double or even the more dreaded a triple chin. Loose muscles can also bring on this condition. Unfortunately, once you do have a double chin, it will take a while to get rid of it. Eat healthy food. Losing weight and eating a healthy diet can be helpful in eliminating a double chin. But even after losing weight, you may find that you also need to tone up.

Do face exercises. Several techniques can help tone up your neck and chin. This simple exercise is helpful in eliminating a double chin: Just pull your lower lip up over your teeth and move your jaw up and down almost as if your are trying to scoop something up with your jaw. Do three sets of 10 repetitions. To see results, this should be done two to three times a day.

See if you can remove excess fluid from your jawline. The Guardian newspaper reports that some researchers believe a double chin is a sign of a lagging lymphatic system. Try placing the thumbs below the jawline and your fingers on the bone itself. Massage the area by moving the thumb pads in the direction of your ears. This may help drain fluids.

Consider chin liposuction. If all else fails and the look of your chin bothers you that much, you might consider cosmetic chin surgery. First, the surgeon will make a small incision under your chin. And then the extra fat will be removed using liposuction. This is usually preformed when you are receiving a neck or cheek lift.
