Bathe Your Newborn
Bathe Your Newborn

With these simple steps you should be able to successfully and confidently give your newborn a bath.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by collecting all the items needed for the bath and finding a location that is comfortable while standing. You will need a bathtub, a bucket of lukewarm water, towel, washcloth, soap, a plastic cup, a fresh diaper, and a fresh set of clothes

  2. Step 2

Make sure not to have the air conditioning on and that it will be comfortable temperature for the baby when they are wet. You do not want them to get to cold.

  3. Step 3

Set the baby in the empty tub. For a newborn it is easiest if you have a bath sling available and these come with most bathtubs these days.

  4. Step 4

Take the washcloth, wet it with water, and wash the babies face. Ring the washcloth out so it is just damp not soaked and make sure there is no soap on the washcloth.

  5. Step 5

Next take the cup, fill it with some water, and rinse the babies hair. Keep in mind not to get the babies face or body wet. Put a small drop of soap in your hand and wash the babies hair. Then once again rinse the babies hair with water

  6. Step 6

Then take the washcloth, put some soap on it, wet it, ring it out and you are going to sponge bath the baby. Keeping in mind that you do not want to get the umbilical cord to wet. Make sure that you get the creases of the babies neck, arms, and legs as milk can get in those cracks and rub the baby raw.

  7. Step 7

The baby is now clean so take the baby out and lay her on the towel. Make sure when drying the baby that you pat them dry an do not rub them

  8. Step 8

The baby is now ready to be diapered and dressed.
