How to Channel Your Spirit Guide
Channelling the higher self or your 'spirit guide' simply means to connect your physical presence and 'active mind' with your non physical self and your subconscious 'knowing'. It is the ability all humans have to connect with our intuition, our creativity, our instinct, our innermost desires and emotion in its purest form. Writers often write 'while channeling' this energy; singers or composers use it to orchestrate a symphony or blend raw emotion into their voice when they belt out a song...painters lose themselves in their masterpieces while painting and sculpting and rarely notice lapses in time while 'in the zone'. It is an unconscious state of being when we are 'tuned in' to our purpose in life.
In ancient times channels or 'mediums' were thought of as prophets or oracles, witches or shamans, saints, healers, geniuses, inventors, angels and yes, even demons. No matter the name or 'definition' it's given, channeling simply means that one is successfully tuned in to their higher consciousness, natural abilities, inner desires, and pure emotion.

1
Begin with the intention that you are making a conscious decision to enact change within your own mind and physical body. Accept the reality that you may or may not be successful in the first, second, tenth or one hundredth attempt; but that you WILL eventually achieve your goal and be satisfied with this reality. Setting preconceived notions and expectations will only lead to frustration, disappointment, and anxiety. Let whatever will be simply BE for now.

2
Get comfortable. Wear comfortable clothing, or none at all. Adjust the temperature in your home/environment so that is comfortable. Turn off lights, phones, televisions, radios, computers, fans, etc. to lessen the possibility of noise influences and distractions. Find a place to sit comfortably on the floor with your back pressed against a wall for support. If sitting, cross legs at the ankle or sit on your legs Indian style with your hands placed loosely in your lap. If this is not comfortable for you, try to lie back on a bed or couch with your hands resting atop your navel area. Close your eyes to further detach your mind from external sight stimulation.

3
Once you are comfortable sitting or lying down; begin breathing in slow, deliberate breaths. Breathe in for 4 slow seconds and out for 4. Count the seconds silently in your mind at first until your lungs are used to the amount of air going in and out as you inhale and exhale. This should take apx. 5 to 8 minutes and might be slightly uncomfortable for your lungs at first as they are probably not used to being so 'elastic'; you might even feel slightly disoriented or 'dizzy' with the extra supply of oxygen you are inhaling but your body should eventually adjust and become comfortable again. Gradually, remove the 'counting procedure' from your mental voice so that all you are aware of is the breath entering and exiting your body; you may even wish to 'silently' sound out the letter mmmmmmm upon inhaling and exhaling to maintain your focusing ability.

Once you are comfortable with your breathing and have detached 'active thoughts' from your mind; envision a mental picture of yourself walking down a stairwell. The steps are very lightly illuminated from within and seem to get brighter the further down the stairwell you walk. It is a very long stairwell and you can actually almost feel your feet touching each stair as you descend. The further you descend, you are becoming more aware of a small place in the center of your head directly level with your eyebrows...if you could open your head and peer inside, you would see a small egg-shaped orb situated at nearly midway between the top of your head and your jaw line, also midway between the front of your head and the back ... floating there of it's own will; glowing softly in your mind. Relax your eyes and envision them 'seeing' this softly glowing orb in your mind and really concentrate on it's presence as you continue to descend the stairs at your feet.
-
5
As you continue focus on the presence of this 'glowing egg shaped orb' in your mind you should begin to see, in the fringe of your 'inner sight' a dark background behind your eyes. This is your mind void of thought, conflict, frustration, fear, etc. As you recognize that you are letting go of these contrasting emotions, you begin to see a small 'ink blots' of color; often dark violet at first; as you recognize its presence; it will fade out from dark violet to lime green, sometimes even caramel or gold ... and if you focus too tightly on expecting to see it, sometimes it will fade away for a few moments (as this is your conscious mind 'interrupting' your subconscious thought streams again); relax, breathe and the 'ink blots' will gradually reappear.
-
6
The 'ink blots' should become more regular in their cycles of color and as you 'watch them' unfold, you may become aware of your body making very small involuntary movements of it's own will. Your toes, fingers, hands, feet, eyelids, lips, or chin may 'twitch' or flex. It is semi-startling at first; but this is a natural response for your muscles as your subconscious energy begins to flow through them and 'activate' cells and fluids that were 'asleep'; do not focus on the movements or pay them any attention at all if you can keep from it. Try to remain focused on your breath and the small orb floating back behind your eyebrows and the color bursts that are unfolding behind your eyelids. Keep your mind as free as possible from random thought, stimulation and 'distractions'.

7
You may feel as though you are 'levitating' or becoming very light; you may feel numb as though you are disconnected from your body or that your body is simply gone. You may have the sensation of being 'sucked' away; as though you are on a roller coaster and you are descending very quickly in the car on the ride ... this is your 'inner self' attempting to make a connection to your 'active brain' and 'physical body'. It is at this time that you should be aware of what questions you ask, what images are conveyed, what messages you need to remember, how you feel, what you see, who/what you hear, etc. Many times the first few 'successful episodes' are just a jumble of emotion and complex thought streams that make little or no sense until your 'source self' learns how to reconnect and 'talk' to your physical/active mind. It's like two strangers trying to learn each other's language in a country that is foreign and strange to both parties. Meditate a minimum of 30 minutes each night to establish a clear and open communication line and accept that it may take some time to 'learn this new language' of self. After meditation it is quite common to feel exhausted at first as your body is using as well as conducting massive amounts of non physical energy that it is not used to; however; after time; meditation can actually serve to 'enliven' and 're-energize' the body as it learns how to process, conduct and use this new energy source more easily.
