Step 1
To sharpen the blades in your garbage disposal put 4 to 6 ice cubes in and run it. Do this every 3 to 4 weeks to keep the blades sharp and efficient.
-
Step 2
Never use any store bought drain cleaners it your garbage disposal. They will damage the garbage disposal blades and unit.
-
Step 3
To get rid of garbage disposal odors run lemon peels through it or run ½ cup of baking soda and hot water. You can also pour ½ cup of white vinegar and let sit for 10 to 15 minutes then run hot water.
-
Step 4
To clean your garbage disposal and get rid of bacteria pour 1 cup of salt and run with cool water.
-
Step 5
Always run water for 1 to 2 minutes after the garbage disposal has stopped running. Use cold water, not hot water.
-
Step 6
To dislodge any objects in your garbage disposal never stick hands or fingers in. Use long needle nose pliers. Make sure the unit is off before trying to pull out any objects. For convenience keep a pair of needle nose pliers under your sink.
