Want to go on a fun road trip but you don’t want to gain 10 pounds eating fast food while sitting in the car? Sticking to your diet is easy if you follow these steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    PACK A COOLER

It’s doesn’t matter what you have planned for your road trip, having a packed accessible cooler is a must have! It is easier if you have a cooler with a spout on the bottom you can let out any melted ice, this limits having to tip it over and getting things wet that shouldn’t get wet. It also lets you add more ice without having to resituate everything.

Have plenty of bottled water in the bottom of your cooler. Many coolers have bins that sit on the upper part of the cooler where you can put fruit, sandwiches, nuts, yogurt, granola, cheese snacks, or just anything you don’t want to get wet. Depending on what your plans are you can have entire meals ready to go or maybe just snacks. Either way you have food ready when you need it. If you don’t you’re more likely to pull over and eat the first thing you see whether it is healthy or not because you are so hungry.

If you want something warm bring a thermos and put precooked soups in it or maybe just some hot water to make tea or whatever hot drink you love.

  2. Step 2

    STOP AT GROCERY STORES

Bigger towns and cities will have grocery stores with deli departments. Grab a rotisserie chicken, romaine salad in a bag and some fresh fruit. For another meal, have the deli slice meat and cheese for you. Slice a tomato and put some of your romaine lettuce on a tortilla and have a wrap or on bread for a sandwich. Grab some fresh fruit and a bag of carrots and you’re set. The deli also has many premade salads and different meats available. Usually they also have sushi and premade sandwiches not to mention a menu of item they can make by request.

  3. Step 3

    CHOOSE SIT DOWN RESTAURANTS

You’re on a road trip so you’re planning on eating out, however, that doesn’t mean you have to eat at fast food joints. Try a local diner where you can have a healthy meal served. In bigger cities chain diners can be open 24 hours a day so it doesn’t matter what time you roll into town.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can put freeze cold gel packs and put them between your waters if you choose.
  • If you’re traveling with kids make sure they know to only open the cooler when you’re ready to grab something and shut it quick to keep the ice from melting as fast.
