Things You'll Need:
- 1 plastic lid from a 2 lb.5oz. plastic peanut container (or similar)
- seashells of different shapes
- hot glue gun
- glue sticks for glue gun
- tacky glue
- beach sand or craft sand
- cardboard box lid to hold hot glue gun
-
Step 1
Heat up your glue gun with glue on a protected surface. A cardboard box lid words great for this. Once your glue gun is completely heated continue with step 2.
-
Step 2
Start with 4 scallop or similar sized shells. Glue them evenly spaced with a dab of hot glue, around the sides of the lid, with the lid upside down (so the rim is up). You will have to hold each shell for a few seconds to give the glue time to set. Make sure each one is set before gluing on the next shell.
-
Step 3
Now, with a different shaped shell, approximately the same size or smaller, glue one in between each of the shells you already have on the lid. Again, allow each shell to set. They are heavier and will slide off if you do not hold them in place until set.
-
Step 4
With a much small shell size, go around and glue one into any small area the lid is still showing. Allow everything to dry.
-
Step 5
With your tacky glue, apply small dabs where ever you still see the color of the plastic lid. Sprinkle your beach sand over the wet glue and allow to dry. To catch your sand, use a recycled styrofoam tray or lid. Set your candle holder over the top of a short glass or cup to allow all sides to dry completely.
-
Step 6
Place a 3 or 4 inch wide candle in the center. Wrap for a gift or use in your home to add a special touch.

on 8/5/2009 Great craft idea. I'm always looking for ways to recycle/use all those shells from beach trips. ...hadn't thought about using a lid. 5*
