How to Move Up From Your Current Position
If you've been stuck in the same position at your job for a while and feel like you need a change, be proactive and seek out new assignments and responsibilities. You'll quickly climb the corporate ladder if you make yourself more visible and go above and beyond your job duties.

Ask your boss about moving up in the company. There may be several avenues for advancement that you are not aware of. Your boss should know your strengths and weaknesses and may be able to put you on the right track for promotion.

Take on difficult responsibilities and assignments. There are usually a few assignments that no one wants to do because they are problematic or time consuming. Volunteer for these assignments to promote yourself as a team player that can get difficult tasks done.

Take every training opportunity in order to enhance your knowledge and gain exposure outside of your area of expertise. This will give you a head start if you are reassigned to a new department. You'll also show the company that you are eager to learn and succeed.

Volunteer for projects in another department or practice group. This will enhance your visibility within the entire company. Participate in your company's charitable endeavors as well. The higher-ups are usually present at these functions, and they'll be able to see how committed you are to the organization.
