There is a pool of unclaimed assets in the UK in the form of forgotten bank accounts, unclaimed pension funds, unclaimed insurance policies, and unclaimed premium bonds prizes. The process for claiming lost funds is administered by government offices for each type of asset. Use these steps to help you find unclaimed money in the United Kingdom - free.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Identify the names of family members who may be legally entitled to unclaimed funds in the UK. These funds may be from accounts left at banks, pension administrators or at National Investment Service. The institutions holding the unclaimed money may not have the current names and addresses of the fund holders.

  2. Step 2

Find lost bank accounts for you or your relatives by visiting the UK Bankers Association. This is a free service and the database contains links to all lost bank accounts from all UK banks. Use the "lost account" link provided on the site to complete a form claiming lost bank account money. This site can also be used to find Building Societies Accounts that have been lost.

  3. Step 3

Track lost pension funds by visiting or contacting the Pension Service Office. This office is part of the Department for Work and Pensions. You can track pension benefits belonging to you or to a spouse or other relative. There are various methods for contacting the Pension Service Office: Use an online form to provide your contact information, Call 0845 6002 537 to request an unclaimed pension application. This is a free service provided by the UK government.

  4. Step 4

Claim lost premium bond prizes by visiting the National Savings and Investment (NS&I) internet site. In order to find unclaimed prizes, you'll need to provide a "holder's number". These prizes may go unclaimed because people move or change telephone numbers and the NS&I can't get in touch with them to deliver the prize.

  5. Step 5

Consider using a paid service to find and claim lost money in the UK. The free services above can be used by anyone; however they may be more time consuming than using a paid service. There are many options for unclaimed lost money paid services in the UK.
