Split ends are usually a result of dry and damaged hair. A big problem with split ends is their ability to move up the hair shaft. Instead of just having a small area at the tip split, you have further damage. There are several methods of hair treatment you can use to get rid of split ends and to prevent further damage to the hair.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair Cutting Scissors
  • Hot Oil for Hair
  • Conditioner for Hair
  1. Step 1

**Trimming Hair Ends to Treat Split Ends**

One of the most obvious and common methods for hair treatment of split ends, is to trim them off. You will need to cut the hair slightly above the highest point of the split. Usually a one-half inch trim will handle the problem. If the splits have gone higher up the hair shaft, you will need to cut more off the hair or opt for a much shorter hairstyle.

  2. Step 2

**Hot Oil to Treat Split Ends**

Oil soaks into the hair shaft and helps the hair to repair itself. Hot oil is very beneficial to as a method for hair treatment of split ends. Place the tube of hot oil in a cup of very warm water. Avoid putting in the microwave or boiling water. The oil doesn’t have to be piping hot to work effectively. Rub into the split ends and allow to remain on the hair for half an hour with your head wrapped in plastic wrap and a towel. A weekly oil treatment will help to prevent split ends.

  3. Step 3

**Deep Conditioner to Treat Split Ends**

Deep conditioning the hair on a weekly basis will also help to repair and prevent split ends. Apply a deep conditioner on the hair, after washing. Wrap your head in plastic wrap. Place a towel over the plastic. Allow to remain on hair for an hour. This will allow the vitamins, nutrients and oils in the conditioner to penetrate through the hair follicles to repair split ends and keep the hair healthy.
