Peel and Seed a Fresh Tomato
Peel and Seed a Fresh Tomato

Some recipes call for fresh tomatoes that are peeled and seeded. Some people have allergic or other reactions to the skin and seeds of a fresh tomato. Peeling and seeding them alleviates these problems, but have you ever tried to peel a tomato? It's not easy unless you do it right!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small pot of simmering water
  • Tomatoes
  1. Step 1

Put a small pot of water up to simmer. Bring it to a boil and then lower the heat until it is just simmering. You don't want to cook the tomatoes, you just want to peel them.

  2. Step 2

When your water is ready, pick up a tomato with a fork. Now dip it in the water and count to five. Take the tomato out immediately. You should be able to peel the skin off easily, leaving you with a peeled fresh tomato. If it is still hard to get the skin off, dip the tomato in for one or two seconds more. Be careful because tomatoes cook very quickly.

  3. Step 3

Now cut it up and scoop out the seeds. Rinse the sections out with cold water and use in a salad. If you are cooking with tomatoes and making sauce, this is a good way to prepare them first.
