How to Wear a Dickie With a Tux

A dickie (sometimes spelled dickey or dicky) is a false shirt front made of a rigid material such as cellulose or a form of paper. You wear a dickie over an evening shirt or tuxedo shirt with a tux. Thus, dickies are sometimes referred to as tuxedo fronts. Because they are not made of cloth, dickies, unlike regular shirts, retain their shape and their clean, white color and do not wrinkle. Dickies may be waterproof or resistant to stains, depending on how they are manufactured.

Instructions

1. Put on the evening or tuxedo shirt you will wear with the tuxedo and button it to the top.

2. Put on the cummerbund or waistcoat you will wear with the tuxedo.

3. Attach the dickie to the shirt's collar. Button the shirt's collar buttons through the buttonholes on the inside of the top of the dickie.

4. Tuck the bottom of the dickie into the top of your tuxedo's cummerbund, or under your tuxedo's waistcoat if you are wearing a waistcoat.

5. Put the tuxedo jacket on over the dickie.
