How to Get a Free Experian Credit Report for Fraud Victims
Credit fraud occurs when someone uses your identity to make unauthorized charges to your credit accounts, opens new accounts in your name or makes any unauthorized use of your personal identification information to commit credit fraud or other crimes. Criminals can obtain your personal identifying information, such as your social security number, driver's license number or credit card numbers through means such as stealing mail from your mailbox or through a fraudulent telephone call or email to you. In addition to other protective steps you can take when your identity has been stolen, you can get a free Experian credit report and other assistance from Experian by notifying them when you are a victim of credit fraud.
