Creative centerpieces are an essential accent for modern receptions. When choosing an unconventional theme such as seashells, additional creativity is required to ensure the theme is effectively communicated. Seashells have a timeless appeal and will never go out of style. They are the perfect complement to any beach-themed or island wedding.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear glass vase
  • Sand
  • Candle
  • 20-30 seashells of varying texture and size
  • Square mirror
  • Square pearl-colored plate or dish
  • Starfish
  • Silk flowers

    Candle Vase

  1. Step 1

Choose the focal point of your centerpiece. A wide-mouthed vase or hurricane globe that is clear or lightly tinted would work best. Wash and dry the vase or hurricane globe to remove any dust or water spots.

  2. Step 2

Fill one-third of the vase with sand.

  3. Step 3

Place a candle in the center of the vase, and bury it slightly in the sand to provide support.

  4. Step 4

Surround the candle with smaller seashells, placing them randomly in the sand.

  5. Final Arrangement

  6. Step 1

Clean a square mirror that will be placed beneath the vase to ensure a bright reflection. Make sure the mirror is larger than the vase.

  7. Step 2

Place the mirror in the center of the table.

  8. Step 3

Place a pearl-colored plate or dish on top of the mirror, slightly out of alignment with the mirror.

  9. Step 4

Set the vase or hurricane globe on top of the pearl-colored dish.

  10. Step 5

Place a starfish, a few large shells and your choice of silk or real flowers on the square mirror.

  11. Step 6

Scatter a few small shells around the mirror if you'd like, to add to the look of a seashell-strewn beach.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prewash all seashells to remove any salt residue. This will allow them to shine in the vase.
  • Never leave lit candles unattended.
