How to Buy Stevia Plant Seeds

Stevia, sometimes referred to as a "sugar plant," originated in Paraguay and is now grown globally. It produces leaves that are sweet and that can be used as a sugar substitute. The Stevia plant, Latin name Stevia rebaudiana, is a perennial that grows in a wide range of soil types when given enough moisture, although germination rates vary. You can buy Stevia seeds online or at a plant nursery to grow your own plants.

Instructions

1. Go to a local nursery to buy Stevia seeds in person, or open a web browser and navigate to an online seed vendor.

2. Choose a type of Stevia seed product. Stevia plants can be grown from seeds or from stem cuttings. Although seeds and stem cuttings both require similar planting environments and care, stem cuttings do not have the same widely varying germination rates that seeds do and so have a much more consistent rate of successful growth.

3. Choose a germination rate. Different strains of Stevia seeds germinate with different success rates. For example, a particular type may be listed as having a 70 percent germination rate. Seeds with higher germination rates yield more Stevia plants, so in order to grow the highest number of plants from your seed stock, choose seeds with higher germination rates.

4. Choose the volume of seeds you want. Online vendors and nurseries may sell seeds by weight or by number of seeds per packet. Nurseries may sell Stevia cuttings in bunches of varying size.

5. Add the seeds you want to buy to the website's shopping cart and go to checkout to complete your purchase. At a nursery, you can select the specific cuttings you want before you buy them.
