Pleated draperies are beautiful, but hanging them with traditional pin hooks can be frustrating. They require special curtain rods that use a string or chain to pull them open. Using curtain rings is a more modern, finished look that adds another style element to a room--match the color or finish of the rod and rings to complement your decor. It is simple to hang your pleated drapes using this technique as long as the diameter of the rings is larger than that of the rounded curtain rod.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rounded curtain rod, 1-inch in diameter
  • Curtain brackets
  • Measuring tape
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws
  • 1 1/2-inch curtain rings
  • Pleated drapes

    Install the Curtain Rod

  1. Step 1

Use a rounded curtain rod that is the proper width for the window. It should extend 3 inches to the left and to the right of the window frame.

  2. Step 2

Install the curtain rod brackets. Use the measuring tape to measure 3 inches to the left of the top of the window frame and mark with a pencil. Using the mark as a guide, pencil in the holes in the rod bracket. Repeat on the right side for the other bracket.

  3. Step 3

Use a screwdriver to put the screws through the brackets to secure them to the wall.

  4. Hang the Drapes

  5. Step 1

Attach the rings to the drapes. Clip a ring to each pleat at the top of the drapes, ensuring that all are securely held to the fabric. Use as many rings as there are pleats.

  6. Step 2

Thread the curtain rod through the rings in order. One at a time, push the rod through the middle of every ring.

  7. Step 3

Place the curtain rod on the brackets. Set the rod into the curved holders, allow the drapes to fall naturally and tighten the provided screws on the brackets to keep the rod in place. Then, pull the drapes open or closed to be sure that the rings smoothly glide on the curtain rod.
