Lemon pepper trout is a delicacy that is easy to make and wonderful to eat. Whether you catch it fresh or fish from Albertson's you can't go wrong with this meal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Whole Trout
  • Butter or Margarine
  • Lemon slices
  • Lemon Pepper
  • Black Pepper
  • Aluminum Foil
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is start your oven. Set it to 425 degrees. It should be ready about the same time as your trout preparations are.

  2. Step 2

Once you have started your oven, it is time to prep the fish. Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil, shiny side down, large enough to wrap around the fish with a little room left over. Then lay the fish on its side, diagonally on the aluminum foil.

  3. Step 3

Slice a whole lemon into thin slices to place on the fish as it cooks. There is no set width the slices need to be. The wider the slices are the more lemon taste you will have on the fish.

  4. Step 4

Place a tablespoon of butter directly on the center of the fish. Then sprinkle some lemon pepper over the length of the fish and top with a lemon slice directly on top of the butter.

  5. Step 5

Now close the aluminum foil around the fish. Fold the corners that are closest to the head and tail in first. Then, fold the other corners together and roll them down towards the fish just make sure not to wrap too tightly. Leave a small amount of room between the aluminum foil and the fish. This will create an air pocket in the foil and will allow the fish to steam themselves in lemon butter as they cook in the oven.

  6. Step 6

Place trout in the oven and let cook for 20 minutes. Remove from the trout from heat and let the foil cool for a minute or so. Then remove the trout from the foil and serve. Add mashed potatoes and a salad for a full meal. Garnish with parsley for desired look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep fresh lemon wedges available for added lemon taste once the fish is served.
  • This actually makes a good meal while you are camping. The principle is the same if you can wrap and cover the trout over a grill. Add eggs and potatoes for a great fishing breakfast.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on size of trout. Cook time for this recipe is for an average of 1 lb. trout and cooking 6 at a time.
  • Make sure to always cook fish thoroughly to avoid illness. The innermost meat on a fish should reach a minimum of 145 degrees to be safe to eat.
